The Countdown Continues
The 6th Mass Extinction is a time of monumental grief which we are determined to help each other channel into non-violent direct action.
We are going to force the government to accept the reality of the situation, to reverse it’s destructive policies and to take meaningful action on the climate catastrophe.
The sixth extinction must be resisted.
“The revolution was effected before the war commenced. The revolution was in the hearts and minds of the people…This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments and affections of the people was the real American Revolution”
– John Adams (Letters)
Urgent action in the face of climate change is growing with each passing day. The storm is upon us, and people are responding accordingly.
The frack free 4, who acted to defend nature and community, have been sentenced. Three are going to prison, with another on suspended sentence. This is saddening, shocking but not surprising. We cannot express enough gratitude for these 4 men who did what was right and necessary in the face of a political climate that leaves nature open to certain destruction. This does not end here!

Polluted Carolina Rivers Spilling into the Ocean Visible From Space
Nearly 8 trillion gallons of rain fell across North Carolina during Hurricane Florence. That rain led to catastrophic flooding across the state, and has polluted rivers, streams, creeks and their outflows along the coast, NASA’s satellite images show.
March Against Extinction, 6th October
Awareness of the 6th Mass Extinction event is spreading. Over 130 cities worldwide will join the annual World March Against Extinction this 6th October, 2018. #MarchingAgainstExtinction is focused on drawing our attention to the plight of elephants and rhinos, who are on the verge of joining all the other species we have lost in recent years.
BBC Announces they’re finally starting to get real on Climate Change(?)
Jo floto, editor of the World Tonight and Newshour announced “If Europe’s ports are underwater, Brexit may seem less important’: we’re expanding climate change coverage”. From 3 October, The World Tonight on BBC Radio 4 and Newshour on BBC World Service will be covering climate change every week.
On Wednesday 19th September, Steffen Horst Meynin, journalist, blogger and activist died. Attempting to document evictions by the Special Task Force of Police, he fell 20 metres from a bridge in the tree house village in Hambach Forest. Protectors have been occupying the Hambacher Forest since 2012, to stop RWE energy from expanding their huge brown coal mine into the area. In recent weeks the joint forces of the police and RWE’s security escalated the fight and began systematically destroying areas of ancient woodland.
A vigil was held in London and other cities across the UK on Wednesday. Stefan was the 67th this year on a list of people around the world who have lost their lives fighting against environmental injustice, the vast majority of them from the global South. Rest in Power.
There are many obstacles to overcoming conventional wisdom. We are stronger together, and must continue to strive for what we know is right.
Walk for Wildlife Debrief
Saturday, 22nd September saw the Extinction Rebellion join Chris Packham’s Walk for Wildlife, rubbing shoulders with the RSPB, Friends of the Earth, the Nature Friendly Farming Network and many more. The event began at Hyde Park with a number of high profile speakers including author, Robert Macfarlane and journalist, George Monbiot discussing the severity of environmental challenges we are facing here in the UK.
Numerous topics were discussed that point directly to ongoing ecological collapse. Successive UK Governments have presided over; a 56% decline of farmland birds since 1970 , a 68% decline in the population of “priority species” since 1970 , with more than one in ten of the UK’s wildlife species now threatened with extinction . The last State of Nature report in 2016 described the UK as, “among the most nature-depleted countries in the world”, with biodiversity potentially having fallen so low that, “ecosystems may no longer reliably meet society’s needs.”
In the face of this growing and undeniable evidence, thousands of concerned citizens marched on Downing Street – unified by a demand for serious action to overturn years of negligent government policy on the environment. As conservationists, animal rights groups and sustainable farming advocates gathered to hear more speakers at Downing Street, the Extinction Rebellion bloc stood outside the gates of number 10 until moved along by police.
It is time for the people to rise up in the face of government inaction! We call on those thousands marching on Saturday, and any who were not, to join us this Autumn to launch the Extinction Rebellion and firmly place the issue of climate change at the centre of national discussion.

NEXT XR ACTION: Declaration of Rebellion
Wednesday, October 31, 2018. 10 AM – 3 PM
Meet at the statue of Millicent Fawcett, Parliament Square, London.
There will be a rally to address the press and public. Speakers will be invited to talk about the dire situation we face. We will hold a short extinction ceremony, honouring those who have died and those who will die as a result of the criminal negligence of the government’s inaction. We will then hold a peaceful sit-in and a banner drop at a nearby location to symbolise our defiance in the face of extinction and our determination to rebel. Some will take a non-violent action which may lead to arrest. If the government does not respond seriously to the Extinction Rebellion’s demands, civil disobedience will commence from the 12th November. Now is the time because we are out of time. There is nothing left to lose.
We need some serious help if we’re going to make real system change. Can you help us to organise a talk in your area, promote our events on Facebook or get on the phone to new members?
If so please drop us an email to email@example.com, message the Facebook page or join our volunteer Facebook group. We have two regular conference calls for new volunteers on Mondays at 7.00pm and on Tuesdays at 1pm to explain about the different working groups, how you can help out and answer any questions about the process.
For more information on the working groups and generally what is involved with the rebellion please check out the ‘How to get involved’ and ‘Briefing’ documents.

Non-Violent Direct Action (NVDA) Trainings
Affinity groups are forming around the country to take part in a series of escalating disruptions during November. At these training sessions we will do a briefing about the Rebellion, go through the theory, and more importantly the practice of nonviolent action. We will consolidate these lessons by forming affinity groups during the training, and discuss further ways to recruit people.

Can you give financial support to the Extinction Rebellion/RisingUp?
RisingUp! and the Extinction Rebellion will have many costs over the coming months including art materials, banners, fliers, personal expenses etc. The Rebellion needs a lot of funding to start in several place across the UK at the same time and to continue into 2019. Indeed, the scale of the Rebellion could be limited by the amount of money available.
If you would like to support the Rebellion financially, a regular standing order would be perfect (as would one off donations). Standing orders or money transfers should be made to our Triodos Bank Account (Sort code: 16-58-10 Account No: 20737912) in the name of Compassionate Revolution Ltd (the holding company for Rising Up!).
Alternatively, if you’re a PayPal user (or more comfortable with PayPal), PayPal
payments can be made to firstname.lastname@example.org
